William and Kathleen in the Crown

Imagine standing in an enclosed area…10x10x6 feet high. That’s what Park Rangers Kathleen and Willam do each day in two hour shifts.  We had to work to meet these two New Yorkers.  In fact it took us 370 stairs to meet them in the top of the crown of the Statue of Liberty.   What an awesome experience. Strike that off the bucket list. Whoo-ya,,  funny thing was as we got set to climb the rather steep spiral staircase to the crown, an elderly Park ranger (yes older than us) cautioned us as to whether we should do the stairs since we were planning to do the Avon Walk on Saturday. Ha!!!  Just made us more determined to fight off our fear of heights, tight spaces, sore muscles and just general exhaustion.  But, it was really pretty easy and so worth it.  What a view!!  William and Kathleen filled us in on all the history, pointed out the special parts from the inside like the eyes and the nose and the lips and the waves of the hair.  William also gave kudos to Lynne for getting tickets for us all at the same time.  Quite a  feat according to him.  This was indeed the crowned jewel in our day visiting Lady Liberty when the skies were crystal clear and the sun bright and warm.
